With its lurking Bear Trap, PGA National’s Champion course has been hosting the Honda Classic since 2007. The 15th, 16th and 17th holes are famously known as the Bear Trap. A plaque on the 15th hole is inscribed “It should be won or lost right here”, reminding players of what’s to come. Let’s take a look at the PGA National’s Champion course and the Bear Trap on the GOLFZON VISION indoor golf simulator.
PGA National – indoor golf simulator 1. 3rd Hole (Par-5) 538 Yards
This is the 538 yard par-5 3rd hole at PGA National’s Champion course. It is affected by strong wind conditions. The hole has bunkers on both sides and narrows as you approach near the green. It’s a good birdie hole, so go for it on the GOLFZON VISION.
PGA National – indoor golf simulator 2. 5th Hole (Par-3) 217 Yards
The 5th hole has been lengthened to 217 yards recently. Care must be taken not to hit the water hazard due to exceptionally strong winds. Because the pin is located on the left side, many players have fallen prey on this hole.
PGA National – indoor golf simulator 3. 15th Hole (Par-3) 179 Yards
Since the start of Honda Classic at the PGA National’s Champion course, 7 out of 10 players have hit the water hazard more than once when facing the Bear Trap.
The 15th is not a particularly long hole, but due to its demanding wind condition, it is very difficult to know where the ball will land. Adding in the large green bunker and surrounding water hazard, you’ll see why they call it the Bear Trap.
