Golf rules are updated every four years by Royal & Ancient Golf Club and the United States Golf Association. Let’s take a look at the official rule changes for 2016 through 2019.
Chest, stomach, arm or any other form of anchored strokes, such as belly or long putters, will be prohibited from this season. It will be interesting to see how players, who in the past have used anchored putting style, will cope with the new rule change this golf season.
Submission of Incorrect Score Card
Previously, players were disqualified if a scorecard was submitted after the round with errors not accounting for penalty strokes. Starting in 2016, even if players accidentally do not account for penalty strokes, they will not be disqualified.
Ball Moving After Address
Starting this season, if a ball at rest moves after the player addresses it, the player is no longer given a penalty. Even though the player will not receive a penalty under the new rule changes, penalty will still be applied if the ball is deliberately moved or touched during practice swings by the player.
Use of Artificial Devices or Equipment
The use of GOLFZON’s smart golf swing analyzer “SwingTalk” will not be permitted at golf tournaments. Previously, the use of swing aids or other artificial devices resulted in disqualification but starting this season penalty will be reduced to two strokes for stroke play and loss of hole for match play. Any subsequent breach of this rule will continue to be disqualification.
